Description

Sugar Snap Pea Seed (Coated) refers to edible‑pod snap peas with a protective seed coating that improves planting success.

🌱 Sugar Snap Peas — Overview

  • Type: Snap pea (eat the whole pod)

  • Plant Height: 5–6 feet (vining)

  • Days to Maturity: ~60–70 days

  • Flavor: Very sweet, crisp pods

  • Use: Fresh eating, salads, stir‑fry, steaming, freezing

🌾 What “Coated” Seed Means

Seed coating is a thin, harmless layer that may include:

  • Fungicide – reduces seed rot and damping‑off

  • Pellet material – improves visibility and planting accuracy

  • Early nutrition or inoculant (on some brands)

✅ Benefits

  • Better germination in cool or damp soil

  • Easier to see and space seeds during planting

  • More uniform stands

⚠️ Important

  • Seeds are not edible

  • Wash hands after handling

  • Do not save coated seeds for eating or sprouting

🌤️ Growing Conditions

  • Season: Cool‑season crop

  • Sun: Full sun (minimum 6 hours)

  • Soil: Well‑drained, fertile soil (pH 6.0–7.5)

  • Temperature: Germinates best at 45–75°F

🌱 Planting Instructions

  • When to Plant:

    • Early spring as soon as soil is workable

    • Late summer for fall harvest (cool regions)

  • How to Plant:

    • Depth: 1–1½ inches

    • Spacing: 2 inches apart

    • Rows: 24–36 inches apart

  • Support:

    • Required — trellis, fence, or netting for best yield

💧 Care & Maintenance

  • Keep soil evenly moist (don’t let it dry out during flowering)

  • Mulch to keep roots cool

  • Avoid heavy nitrogen fertilizer (peas make their own)

🫛 Harvesting

  • Pick pods when plump, glossy, and bright green

  • Harvest frequently to keep plants producing

  • Eat fresh or refrigerate immediately for best sweetness
