1# KY WONDER WAX YELLOW BEAN

Kentucky Wonder Wax is a popular yellow (wax) pole bean variety, closely related to the classic green Kentucky Wonder, but bred for golden pods.

Quick Overview

• Type: Pole bean (needs support)

• Bean color: Bright yellow (wax bean)

• Pod length: ~6–7 inches

• Flavor: Mild, tender, slightly sweet

• Use: Fresh eating, steaming, canning, freezing

• Days to maturity: ~60–65 days

Why gardeners like it

• ✅ Heavy producer once it gets going

• ✅ Tender pods when picked young

• ✅ Vigorous vines (often 6–8 ft tall)

• ✅ Good disease resistance for a wax bean

Growing tips

• Planting time: After last frost, when soil is warm (60°F+)

• Spacing:

  • 1–2 inches apart along a trellis

  • Thin to ~6 inches apart

• Support: Trellis, fence, or pole (essential)

• Sun: Full sun (6–8+ hours)

• Water: Regular, consistent watering—don’t let plants dry out

• Harvesting: Pick pods young and often to keep plants producing

Kitchen notes

• Best when harvested before seeds bulge

• Excellent steamed, sautéed, or used fresh

• Yellow pods make it easy to spot mature beans for harvest
